Assumptions used EDIT ▾
mm

Commonly 1.27–1.33.

Brick count = wall volume ÷ volume of one brick including mortar joints. Mortar = wall volume − volume of solid bricks. Dry mortar volume is taken as wet volume × the dry factor, because sand and cement bulk before mixing. Cement is converted at 1,440 kg/m³ and 50 kg per bag. These are standard estimating conventions, not site measurements.

How it’s calculated

Bricks = wall volume ÷ (brick + joint) volume; mortar = wall − bricks; dry mortar = wet × 1.33

Example: A 20 × 10 ft, 9-inch wall ≈ 1,834 conventional bricks including 5% wastage.

Questions

How many bricks are in 1 m³ of brickwork?+

With modular 190 × 90 × 90 mm bricks and 10 mm joints, about 500. With conventional 230 × 110 × 75 mm bricks, about 410.

Which mortar mix should I use?+

Commonly 1:6 for 9-inch walls and 1:4 for 4½-inch walls, but follow the specification.
