PLYWOOD
Plywood Sheet Calculator (8×4) with Cutting Layout
Find how many plywood sheets you need for your panels. Standard 8×4, 7×4 and 6×4 sheets, saw kerf, wastage and a visual cutting layout.
Assumptions used EDIT ▾
Panels are placed on sheets in rows, largest first, and may be rotated. Grain direction, edge trimming of factory edges and reuse of offcuts are not considered, so check the layout before cutting. The area-only figure divides total panel area by sheet area and adds the wastage allowance.
SHEETS NEEDED

By layout. Area alone suggests at least 1 with 10% wastage.
- Total panel area1.74 m²
- 18.8 sq ft
Cutting layout
Numbers are panel sizes in mm. Check grain direction before cutting.
How it’s calculated
Panels are laid out on sheets in rows, largest first, allowing rotation and a saw cut between pieces.
Example: Two 720 × 560 sides, two 564 × 560 tops and one shelf fit on one 8 × 4 sheet.
Questions
What size is a standard plywood sheet?+
In India the most common is 8 × 4 ft (2440 × 1220 mm). 7 × 4 and 6 × 4 are also sold.
Why is the layout count higher than the area count?+
Panels cannot always use every scrap of a sheet. The layout shows what actually fits.
