CUTTING
Cutting List Calculator for Plywood Furniture
Make a cutting list for furniture: panels grouped by board thickness, sheets needed, a cutting layout for each sheet and edge banding length.
Assumptions used EDIT ▾
Panels are placed on sheets in rows, largest first, and may be rotated. Grain direction, edge trimming of factory edges and reuse of offcuts are not considered, so check the layout before cutting. The area-only figure divides total panel area by sheet area and adds the wastage allowance.
SHEETS NEEDED
2sheets · 8×4 ft
By layout. Area alone suggests at least 2 with 10% wastage.
- 18 mm sheets5 pieces

- 6 mm sheets1 pieces

- Total panel area2.17 m²
- 23.4 sq ft
- Edge banding (if every edge)Usually only visible edges are banded
- 14.5 m
Cutting layout
Numbers are panel sizes in mm. Check grain direction before cutting.
18 MM · 1 SHEETS
6 MM · 1 SHEETS
How it’s calculated
Panels are grouped by thickness, then laid out on sheets largest-first with a saw kerf between cuts.
Example: A cabinet in 18 mm with a 6 mm back needs sheets of each thickness counted separately.
Questions
Does it consider grain direction?+
Not yet. Panels may be rotated, so check grain on veneered or laminated boards before cutting.
