Box construction: two full-height sides; top, bottom and shelves fit between the sides; shelves are 20 mm shallower than the carcass; the back covers the full width and height; doors are full overlay with a 3 mm gap. Hinges: 2 per door up to 900 mm tall, 3 up to 1600 mm, 4 above (a common rule of thumb; follow the hinge maker's guidance for heavy doors). Drawers, plinths and legs are not included.

How it’s calculated

Sides = height × depth; top, bottom and shelves = (width − 2 × board) × depth; shutters split the width.

Example: A 900 × 720 × 560 mm cabinet with 2 doors in 18 mm board: parts total 2.88 m², too tight for one 8 × 4 sheet, so 2 sheets, 4 hinges and 2 handles.
