Door sticking, dragging or not closing
Wooden doors swell in the monsoon and sag on loose hinges. Most of the time tightening or re-fixing the hinges is enough; planing is the last step.
What usually causes it
- Loose hinge screws, so the door sags towards the lock side.
- Wood or board swelling in the rainy season.
- Frame moved because the wall settled or cracked.
- Lock strike plate out of line with the latch.
What you can check yourself
- Open the door and lift the handle: if the hinge side moves, the screws are loose.
- See where it rubs: top corner (sag), whole edge (swelling) or only at the lock (strike plate).
- Note if it only sticks in the monsoon.
Parts to ask the shop for
- Longer wood screws for the hinges (the top hinge takes the most load)
- New hinges of the same size if the old ones are bent
- Wood filler or dowels for stripped screw holes
- Primer or paint for any edge that is planed, so it does not soak up water
Take the old part or a photo of it: sizes and threads must match.
What to ask the worker
- Can you fix it by re-fixing the hinges before planing?
- If you plane the door, will you seal the bare edge?
- Does the frame need fixing, and why did it move?
