A planning aid, not a design. Sanctioned load is decided by your electricity distribution company, and circuits, cable sizes and protection must be designed by a licensed electrician following IS 732 and local rules.

Connected load

Connected load is the sum of the rated power of everything that could be connected.

Connected load (W) = Σ (appliance rating in watts × quantity)
kW = W ÷ 1000

Use the rating on each appliance's label. Typical figures vary widely by model: an inverter air conditioner, for example, draws very differently from an older fixed-speed unit.

Demand: not everything runs at once

Lights, fans, a refrigerator and a television may run together, but a water heater, an iron and a microwave rarely all run at the same moment. Estimators apply a simultaneous-use (diversity) percentage to connected load to estimate the demand. The right figure is a judgement based on the premises and how it is used.

From watts to amps

Current (A) ≈ watts ÷ voltage (single phase, power factor ≈ 1)

EXAMPLE

8 LED lights × 10 W + 4 fans × 75 W + TV 120 W + refrigerator 250 W + AC 1,600 W + water heater 2,000 W = 4,350 W connected
At 60% simultaneous use: 2,610 W ≈ 2.6 kW → 2,610 ÷ 230 ≈ 11.3 A

Motors, compressors and some electronics draw more current when starting, and power factor below 1 increases current; these are part of the electrician's design, not this estimate.

Tool

The load calculator adds appliance ratings, applies your simultaneous-use figure and shows the estimated current. Send the wiring estimate as a quotation.
